This Motherless Land follows the lives of two cousins – Funke who has been born and raised in Nigeria and Liv, who has what appears to be enjoying a privileged upbringing in Somerset. Tragedy brings the cousins together and the story then moves between Somerset and Lagos over the course of two decades.
Victoria discovered more about the story, as well as Nikki's life and her writing process. This was followed by questions from the audience - covering themes such as where home is and how The Archers always makes as appearance somewhere in Nikki's books.
As with every event at the Festival year, before the talk, there was a poem from a Word-Up poet and Rachelle Ruby Foster held the room transfixed with a piece called Fungi, about the death of her Mother.
What an absolute triumph this year's Festival has been. Huge congratulations to its Director, Carole Winter and the team!
