As children and young people across the UK are busy preparing to return to school and college over the next couple of weeks, did you know that our building in Tunbridge Wells was once home to a college?

As part of our 40th anniversary celebrations, we commissioned a history of our building in Mount Ephraim Road and, through the work of local historian Chris Jones, discovered much about the previous inhabitants of Napier House.

In 1965, a commercial college opened at 14 Mount Ephraim Road. Constables Commercial College taught shorthand and typing and was run by Mr and Mrs Young. As Chris Jones, explained ‘the premises were ideal – the rooms were big enough for classrooms and for holding examinations’.

Today at CooperBurnett, our relationship with education continues, as we have a number of clients in the private school sector, which we have advised over the years on acquisitions and mergers, and on commercial property issues.
