CooperBurnett Partner, Victoria Sampson, has been an Ambassador for ellenor for five years explains why she supports the charity.

This Sunday, a team of six from CooperBurnett will be walking nearly 26 miles from Tower Bridge in London to Gravesend to raise money for ellenor, a charity which provides vital hospice at home care to babies, children and young in their own homes throughout southwest Kent.

CooperBurnett Partner, Victoria Sampson, has been an Ambassador for ellenor for five years and here she explains why she supports the charity:

“When I was approached by the ellenor team in 2012 to act as an Ambassador for the charity, which provides hospice care in the child’s own home, I did not hesitate to say ‘yes’. I am very proud to be associated with ellenor and have volunteered and spoken at some great events on behalf of the charity over the years.

The work that ellenor does is inspirational. The charity provides invaluable care and support to babies, children and teenagers, their parents, siblings and family members through what are extremely difficult and unimaginable times. ellenor is relentless in its commitment to provide 24-hour palliative and end-of-life care to children who desperately need it and would like to help more families – but cannot do this without securing funding.

ellenor needs to raise nearly £7 million every year. If it can raise more than that, it can help even more families. The charity never turns a child away and its nursing team is second to none.

I thoroughly enjoy working with ellenor’s fundraising team in raising awareness of ellenor in this region, supporting the charity whenever and wherever I can. I can only suggest that you visit www.ellenor.org to see for yourself the amazing work it does and what fun everyone has raising funds for the charity.

Every little bit helps, be it taking part in one of the charity’s sponsored events and or shopping in one ellenor’s 16 charity shops – there’s a brilliant one in Camden Road, Tunbridge Wells.

I am extremely proud of my colleagues at CooperBurnett who are joining me to walk from London to ellenor’s adult hospice in Gravesend on Sunday – a walk just short of 26 miles. When ellenor was our firm’s chosen charity, we raised a fantastic £15,676.41, smashing our original target of £10,000.

The team put their full weight behind supporting ellenor during that time, by holding declutter days and donating sackfuls of clothing and other items to ellenor charity shops; donating chocolate eggs for its children’s Easter party; holding a curry night; and, this time last year, completing the Three Peaks Challenge.

The sum we raised could help to pay for 179 sessions of chemotherapy in the home for the charity’s young patients, preventing unnecessary trips to hospital, ensuring families are kept together whenever possible or just over three months of play or music therapy, helping children – patients or siblings – to communicate and make sense of their emotions at such a difficult time.

As an Ambassador for the charity, I know what a difference the incredible support ellenor gives its families makes, so I would be really grateful if you could consider sponsoring us in our challenge to walk ‘a marathon’ from London to Gravesend. Thank you."
